A Little Color!
This project came from an obligation : I had to provide a series of drawings or crafts for the Arts session of an examen (the equivalent of the GED). I chose the Stained Glass theme, ‘cause it was the only one I was interested in at the time, and this is one of the results!
Story prompt because it’s not like I don’t already have a metric ton of fic ideas rotting in my google drive.
But imagine: blind Vaati who uses his his wind magic to sense and “see” his surroundings. The mage was blinded at some point during the final battle during the Minish Cap, because taking all that weaponry directly to the eye(s) was probably not that great for his vision.
He has a hard time telling the Links apart, because pushing at things with air currents doesn’t exactly tell you what color anything is. He tends to get momentarily startled by Shadow Link sometimes, until the shadow starts talking, since he uses a different tone of voice than the other Links (and considerably more profanity).
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (2004)
A long, long time ago, when the world was on the verge of being swallowed by shadow… The tiny Picori appeared from the sky, bringing the hero of men a sword and a golden light. With wisdom and courage, the hero drove out the darkness. When peace had been restored, the people enshrined that blade with care.

// Here’s you guys a little doodle because I just don’t like plain posts and drawing Vaati is
hardfun.Well anyway I think I’m gonna make him Minish Cap Vaati because I’m pretty sure he’d be more fun and yyeeahhh wooo //
GUYS. I FEEL LIKE I CRACKED THE CODE.
I THINK I FIGURED OUT WHY ADULTS CAN’T SEE THE MINISH IN “THE MINISH CAP”.
And believe it or not, it has partially nothing to do with their eyes. But rather, their ears.
Let me explain.
The typical speaking range for an adult male is about 85 to 180 hertz (Hz).
Assuming that the Minish are basically just tiny humans, that means that the average Minish male would speak at about 12-26 kilohertz (kHz)!Humans can hear frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, but hear the best of 2,000 and 5,000 Hz.
The average adult hearing range tends to cap out at around 15 kHz.
Meaning, that if the Minish happen to speak at 15 kHz or higher, that renders (most) adults unable to hear them at all!So, what can children hear?
Well, you have to be younger than at least nineteen to hear the Mosquito Sound, which is at 17.4 kHz; which eliminates most adults and anyone approaching twenty.
Which means that children can hear within the range of the average Minish’s speech and adults can’t.Because adults cannot hear the Minish, they can’t see them; since nothing caught their attention.
Because, to them, they don’t exist.
Many people (in-game) admit that they were able to see the Minish as children but lost the ability to as adults; and being able to HEAR them may play a huge role in that.Which is probably also why some of the Minish are confused that adults can’t see them (like the one who wanted to be an apprentice to Carpenter Mutoh).
They don’t realise that the adults can’t hear them.Or, at least, that’s what I think.
